Palettes

Downtown Casual

In a sleek Tribeca apartment by Selldorf Architects, interior designer Kellie Franklin crafts a space with no shortage of character. Her work is casual yet sophisticated, using both classic Knoll designs and contemporary KnollTextiles upholstery to build personality.

As with most New York City apartments, maximizing space through spatial design was essential. Franklin utilized lighting and a soothing palette for an open and inviting atmosphere. Featuring a wall of windows, the combined living and dining room is connected to the kitchen. Ethereal Knoll Luxe Danube drapery transforms the floor-to-ceiling windows, diffusing natural light throughout the space. “The drapery adds warmth to the space while also keeping with the modern and simple aesthetic,” states Franklin.

Adorned with a white floral and navy wallpaper, the dining room was designed as an ideal gathering spot for family dinners or entertainment. “Many classic furniture pieces are used, each having its own unique character and attitude,” states Franklin of her use of the Saarinen Oval Dining Table. Topped with marble, Saarinen’s design adds an element of refinement and elegance to the entire space. Nearby, the kitchen exhibits a more laid-back dining atmosphere. Barstools upholstered in KnollTextiles Vibe Vinyl are a practical and modern complement to the sleekly constructed birchwood kitchen island.

In the master bedroom, metallic accents are juxtaposed with soothing lavender walls for a retreat that is both relaxing and glamorous. A Platner Arm Chair, upholstered in KnollTextiles Djenne by David Adjaye, fits seamlessly into the chosen aesthetic with its sinuous curves and polished finish.
